| Embryo
Transfer
We
do not engage in "Mass Embryo Transfer".
(The practice of pulling several Embryos
from one mare each year to breed to the
same or a limited number of stallions)
Embryo
Transfer
- At this time, there are no ET Foals available.
Why Embryo Transfer? There
are a couple of good reasons that make Embryo
Transfer a superior method of breeding.
For example, several foals can be produced
from a valuable mare in one breeding year,
to more than one stallion if desired. Also,
High performance mares can produce progeny
while remaining active on the competitive
circuit. The valuable mare is not put through
the risk of carrying the foal to term, as
well.
The
process begins by choosing a donor mare.
The donor mare is the mare that we would
be flushing the fertilized egg from. This
mare would pass along her genetic traits.
Next we would find a recipient mare that
is “in sync” with the donor
mare. There are several options for this
stage, but most commonly, we lease a mare
from a farm that has on hand a few hundred
or so mares, specifically for this purpose.
Once the Donor mare is bred to the selected
stallion at the time of ovulation, the egg
will be flushed about 7 days later. The
egg is graded and if fertilization was successful,
the embryo will then be implanted into the
recipient mare's uterus. Of course, it isn't
quite as clean cut as listed here. If you
would like to know the entire procedure,
feel free to contact us.
